sasi-ladiesThe passion for Sasi was born in a paint shop in Midrand. Sam was a business partner in the shop and has years of home improvement experience but was wanting a new and different challenge. She realised that almost all customers were asking for new and different ways to “do” walls.

Sam took her history in the wall coating industry clients and developed feature walls using colour which were more striking. Initially she and Taryn looked at paintable wallpapers but once they discovered the world of printed papers, they knew this was the way to go. After a visit overseas to source suppliers they were awakened to the wallpaper industry explosion abroad.

In the past, especially oversees, wallpaper was used to mask poorly built walls and most people see very floral “biggie best” prints when they think of wallpaper. However, now there is an array of incredible papers from the understated textured papers to the “bling” and “wow”.

We are often surprised at home owners and some decorators’ astonishment at the enormous range of wallpapers available in South Africa. Wall coverings have been around since the 1400s with the South African demand multiplying exponentially in the last three years.

Our clients are becoming braver with colour and design whereas in the past they were almost afraid of the commitment to wallpaper. To date there is no single product that can give a room a complete face lift like wallpaper. The newer products are trendy and can be removed very easily.

2013 saw large patterns and the return of the big bold prints and lots of colour. This is not to say that clients don’t prefer the neutral tones and textures. Guest bathrooms are still the rooms where people are happy to push the boundaries. We are thrilled to have clients who do this as we always suggest doing something striking.
