Each year new trends are introduced into the design world; new pantones, patterns and styles. This year saw intense greens and water tones trending at Heimtex Textile Fair 2017, both with fabrics and wallpapers. It seems that more and more designers are turning to the planet and its raw materials for inspiration. Protecting our natural resources and using them in design was seen at Heintex 2017 in patterns such as the cell structure patterns, as well as in bark and water patterns. Here in South Africa, however, we still seem to be taking more of a conservative approach to interior design with many people still preferring neutral tones, even in 2017.
With technology moving forward so quickly and allowing for more creative ways for designers to create wallpapers, the explosion of digital printing is moving wallpaper trends towards murals and creative patterns and textures.
Feature or statement walls are still very much on trend right now, both in residential and commercial interiors spaces. This trend has been around for a long time and the desire is still to add interest to our walls. A mural is the one design element that you can add that instantly changes the feel of room. And it can be done with the least amount of effort and disruption!
These days’ homeowners are not as nervous of wallpaper as they used to be and it is becoming the norm to have a couple of feature walls in the home. The only nervous clients we see at Sasi Wallpaper are the ones that think they have to install the wallpaper themselves. At Sasi Wallpaper we always advise our clients to use a seasoned wallpaper installer; a handy hint and tip being that if you buy wallpaper from a company that cannot provide you with the name of a suitable installer, don’t buy the wallpaper.
If, on the other hand, you are experienced in wallpapering, then by all means go ahead and paper your walls your heart’s content, but remember that the most important aspect is the preparation of the walls. Ensure that you have dry, smooth, sound walls first. Sort out the water issues and uneven plaster, complete the painting, cornices, skirtings and carpet installations and if you need any assistance call Sasi Wallpaper for advice.
Wallpaper can have the biggest impact on a space and change the feel of a room where painting just can’t. Paint cannot adorn walls like wallpaper and to cap it off, wallpaper can last between 5 and 15 years if cared for properly.
Visit the Sasi Wallpaper showroom to experience the wonderful wallpapers available.
