Azure, cerulean, cyan, sapphire, navy…there are many names for the colour blue. Blue is a popular choice for many when decorating one’s home. It’s a colour associated with feelings of serenity and honesty.

The human eye can see approximately 10 million different colours, and there are hundreds possibly thousands of different blue hues. The basic colour wheel can be divided into cool and warm tones; red though to yellow colours are warm like the sun, purple through to green are cool colours with the ability to bring a calming and soothing effect.

The colour blue works well with other cool tones however if you are looking for a bolder contrasting colour select a colour from the other side of the colour wheel as an accent, this is why red and blue are often used together. Brighton wallpaper as seen in this picture is an example of contracting colours.

Cool colours appear to recede and are therefore ideal when decorating smaller spaces that you want to feel more spacious. However, to add some intricacy, warm blues exist too. When blue is mixed with hints of red a warm tone is produced and this will make a room feel cozy and inviting. So when you are decorating spaces in your home that are generally used by the family like the kitchen, TV room or dining room, using a warm blue tone is ideal, as can be seen in our blue Lace Wallpaper.

A cooler shade of blue like the Verona Damask wallpaper, is more effective when decorating your bedroom or bathroom as it brings a calming and tranquil effect.

A deep blue such as indigo, which has purple added into the mix, has been described as elegant and evokes a sense of wonder and magic. Indigo works especially well when used with bold, bright colours like fuchsia pink.

Sasi has some wonderful blue wallpapers to choose from. Whether you are looking for a cool duck egg blue in your bedroom, Ambre wallpaper from Nouveau, or a warm blue for a study or PJ lounge come in and see the range.
